What does it take to be an effective technology leader?
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) provides five standards for educational leaders. Through my coursework in EDIT 760 I explored each individual standard and its application in a practical school setting, identifying any areas of concern. Following my separate analyses, I then synthesized my data into a current conditions report and accompanying technology improvement plan. Use the links below to access my full body of work:
So, to answer the question above, what does it take to be a good technology leader? Like any leader, an important aspect is in creating a vision with realistic and actionable steps that can bring it to fruition. Also, an acknowledgement that there is no end destination – given the constant innovations in technology, modifying and enhancing knowledge and performance is ongoing. Perhaps the most important feature is the realization that leadership is not a solitary pursuit. All stakeholders in education, including teachers, parents, students, and community partners must be brought to the table and made an integral part of any planning and implementation.
